The fibers of this silk pillowcase are woven with silver fibers, a powerful mineral that is clinically proven to eliminate up to 99.9% of acne-causing bacteria resulting in proven skin healing benefits.
Silver ions act as broad-spectrum antimicrobial and antifungal agents in addition to having healing properties and researchers in dermatology frequently use silver for treating conditions related to bacterial colonization, such as acne, eczema and inflammatory rashes. This is because silver can increase the regenerating function of the dermis cells, resulting in faster wound healing, the prevention of scar formation and the smoothness of previously damaged skin. In addition, silver acts as an antioxidant that protects the skin from free radicals and improves the appearance of fine, lines and wrinkles.
Silk is a sustainable, biodegradable and renewable resource, that is biocompatible with our skin. We have 90% of our amino acids in common with the proteins found in silk. This high level of affinity means that skin responds well to contact with silk and can help maintain the skin's humidity levels and reduce moisture loss that contributes towards dry skin. Studies have found silk is a potential treatment for inflammatory skin conditions like atopic dermatitis and eczema.
